"Scary Movie"

Chris opened a bag of popcorn and put it in the microwave, setting the time and starting it before walking away. He consulted his watch as he crossed the kitchen to the fridge, where he checked to see that he was stocked up on sodas. Another couple of minutes and she’d be here, and he wanted to make sure he had everything ready.

He and his girlfriend had decided to spend this Halloween at his place rather than hers for one reason: he lived far enough out of town that he’d not get any trick-or-treaters. Just as the microwave began it’s beeping the doorbell rang. Chris grabbed the bag as he left the kitchen, juggling it from hand to hand as it was hot and answered the door.

”Trick-or-treat.”

Chris eyed the blond woman on his porch and grinned. “Let me guess…you’re a Blockbuster employee.”

Lisa rolled her eyes, shoving him playfully with the hand that wasn’t holding the stack of Blockbuster videos. “Very funny…you must be a clown?” she said of his popcorn juggling.

”So what’d you get?” Chris asked, stepping aside to let her in. He shut the door and followed her into the living room.

”I cleaned out their Horror section,” Lisa declared, taking the bag of popcorn from Chris. She opened it, popping a few warm kernels into her mouth.

Chris picked up the movies from the coffee table and sorted through them. Friday the 13th; Pumpkin Head; Halloween; Nightmare on Elm Street… ”You sure you wanna watch those, Lisa? I didn’t think you were into scary movies.”

”Calling me a scaredy cat, Agent Larabee?” Lisa asked with the quirk of an eyebrow, a handful of popcorn frozen half way to her mouth.

”Never,” Chris said with a grin. He walked over to the entertainment center and opened the first DVD and inserted it into the player. “You want a soda?”

Hours later, the pair were cuddled up on the couch, the lights out, a fire roaring in the fireplace.

”Why is it no matter how fast the victim is running, the masked killer is always right on their tail, even though he’s walking?” Chris pondered.

”Maybe he’s got really long strides?” Lisa suggested, bringing a Pepsi to her lips and sipping. She set her soda aside, picking up the bowl of popcorn and sat forward on the edge of her seat. The movie was almost over and the lone survivor was getting away, climbing into a boat on the lake.

Chris’s green eyes went from the screen to Lisa, anticipating what was about to happen.

A moment later, on the screen, Jason Voorhees rose up from the water to overturn the boat. As Chris expected, Lisa jumped considerably, letting out an ear splitting shriek and upsetting the bowl in her lap.

Popcorn flew everywhere.

Chris, resisting the urge to laugh, caught Lisa easily and pulled her into his arms. He could feel her heart beating wildly as he drew her nearer. ”It’s okay,” he murmured, running a hand over her hair. Before he knew it, his lips had found hers and they were lost in a deep, sensual kiss, tongues touching, teasing. He moaned softly, laying back on the couch and bringing Lisa with him, his hands roaming and caressing, the movie and Jason Voorhees forgotten.

When the kiss ended they lay together, breathing deeply. Chris felt something poking him in the back and realized what it was as he groped for it, his hand coming out with a few stray popcorn kernels.

”Sorry,” Lisa said sheepishly, glancing about to see that they had quite a mess to clean up.

Chris looked from the kernels in his hand to Lisa, a grin tugging at his lips. “I thought you said these movies don’t scare you?” he asked.

Ignoring the teasing she was getting, Lisa started to sit up. “I’ll just get this cleaned up-“

”It can wait,” Chris said, pulling her back down for another kiss.
